On the front portico, which is the only remaining portion of the earlier Greek Revival State House of the 1830's, stands a statue of Ethan Allen, fabled leader of the Green Mountain Boys. The original marble sculpture was by the hand of Larkin Mead, but was replaced by a replica in 1941 due to deterioration from exposure to weather.
